ESTABLISHMENT OF PTA |

Pakistan Tanners Association was established
in late 50s. Its Central Office is situated at
Defence Housing Authority, Karachi representing
the leather industry and dealing with the members’
problems at Federal level. Two Zonal Offices namely
PTA (Southern Zone) at Korangi Industrial Area,
Karachi representing of Sindh and Baluchistan
Provinces and PTA Northern Zone at Lahore which
represents Punjab Province, NWFP, Northern Area
and A.J.K for looking after the affairs of PTA’s
members at their respective zonal level.
ESTABLISHMENT OF PTA’S INSTITUTIONS
:
- PTA has established a well equipped technical
institute in financial collaboration
with the Government out of EDF under the name
of National Institute of Leather Technology
(NILT) at Korangi, Karachi which is
catering to the needs of upgrading the leather
sector industry particularly through skill development
of the workforce in the manufacturing units.
The Institute provides Certificate and Diploma
Courses.
Another leather training institute has also
been set up at Gujranwala for the same purpose
to keep pace with the world modern fashion trend
to be competitive in the international quality
conscious market of leather & leather products.
- PTA has established a full fledged Combined
Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at
Korangi, Industrial Area, Karachi for tannery
waste water which is nearing completion under
technical assistance of the Dutch Government
and through joint funding by EPB out of EDF
and PTA (Southern Zone) proportionately.
A similar Treatment Plant has also been set
up at Kasur aimed at combating severe industrial
pollution.
